The Civil Engineering originates from the major of Agricultural Building Environment and Energy (enrollment since 1986) and has a history of more than 30 years. In 1999, the Agricultural Built Environment and Energy of the former Northwest Agricultural University and the Civil Engineering of the former Northwest Forestry College (enrollment since 1999) were merged into this major. With the implementation of the Western Development Strategy and the "One Belt and One Road", the Civil Engineering has the ability to transport engineering and technical personnel for the construction of the northwest region, and can provide scientific and technological services for the problems in the construction of large-scale projects, which meets the needs of regional economic development. The civil engineering discipline and the first-level discipline of water conservancy engineering have formed a pattern of mutual support and common development, and the disciplines of geotechnical engineering and structural engineering in the construction of water conservancy projects have formed a disciplinary support and support for the cultivation of undergraduate talents. The school is an agricultural and forestry college, and this major has a deep penetration with water conservancy engineering, agricultural engineering, and landscape architecture disciplines, reflecting the characteristics of multidisciplinary cross-integration. Relying on the Northwest Water Conservancy & Hydropower Engineering Co., Ltd, Experimental Center of Northwest Hydraulic Research Institute, and Shaanxi Water Conservancy Construction Engineering Inspection Center, it provides a good practice teaching platform for the training of Civil Engineering professionals.
The major of Civil Engineering cultivates composite senior engineering and technical talents with a solid foundation in natural sciences, mastering the basic theories and basic knowledge of civil engineering disciplines, obtaining basic training as engineers, having the ability to use the professional knowledge learned to creatively solve complex engineering problems in the field of civil engineering, and having preliminary civil engineering design, project management and innovation capabilities. Graduates can engage in the design, construction, management, consulting, supervision and research of civil engineering such as construction, roads, bridges and other civil engineering, and reach the same level as the civil engineering qualification in about five years of graduation, and become the technical backbone or senior management personnel of civil engineering and related fields.
According to the enrollment of civil engineering majors, the training is divided into directions, and the two training directions are: construction engineering and road and bridge engineering. Students conduct basic theoretical study and professional basic theoretical study in the first 2 years, choose a professional direction in the 3rd semester, and then train according to the professional direction.
Specialized key courses: Architectural Engineering: Theoretical Mechanics, Mechanics of Materials, Structural Mechanics, Civil Engineering Surveying, Housing Architecture, Soil Mechanics, Principles of Concrete Structure Design, High-rise Building Structures, Civil Engineering Construction Techniques; Road and bridge engineering direction: theoretical mechanics, material mechanics, structural mechanics, civil engineering surveying, soil mechanics, structural design principles, road survey and design, bridge engineering, traffic engineering.
